Lakewood Ranch, a Brilliant Plan. Part 1
If you’ve ever experienced Lakewood Ranch, you’ve appreciated the genius. Everything you need to live a full life is strategically placed in an area of about 50 square miles. - First off, There’s a Corporate Life. Lakewood Ranch is a job mecca. There are over 4 million square feet of commercial real estate and more than 1,350 businesses in diverse sectors. Lucky for current and future residents, Lakewood Ranch has the potential for 14 million square feet. One of the more recent additions is CORE (Collaboration Opportunities for Research); biotech, research, and business-focused campus. Commercial growth and development are key for drawing new families and stabilizing the families that currently reside there.
- Main Street. Main Street Lakewood Ranch is the hub for nonprofit and community events. This little street packs a punch! They offer car shows, running events and charity races, farmer’s markets, tremendous restaurants and shops, and Music on Main, which is a free monthly concert series and block party.
- Schools. A-rated schools are part of the equation for making Lakewood Ranch a successful community. In addition to the primary and secondary schools, there are nine campuses of higher education. Families will not move to an area without top-notch schools, and it’s a necessity.
- Shopping. Whether you’re interested in boutiques, bargain shopping, malls, department stores, or specialty shops, Lakewood Ranch offers more than one could imagine. Main Street, Cooper Creek, and The Mall at University Town Center (UTC) make certain you never need to shop anywhere else. UTC alone offers tremendous shopping with a boutique feel and higher-end restaurants, including Seasons 52 and Larsen’s Steakhouse. It also offers an array of department stores, including Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom.

This blog is a two-part series on the building strategy of Lakewood Ranch and how it offers tremendous value to any person and/or family moving to the area. Whether you’re a young family with children or recently retired, this 50 square mile community has more to offer than many cities in the United States.
If you’re considering moving to the area, we urge you to read the following to get a little taste of all Lakewood Ranch has to offer.
- Recreation. Lakewood Ranch families are active families! Whether the kids want to play soccer, softball, disc golf, or simply run around with friends at the park, Lakewood Ranch has it all. It also has the Premier Sports Campus, which offers 140 acres of Celebration-seeded Bermuda grass and 23 mixed-use fields. If you’re unaware, Celebration-seeded Bermuda has excellent wear tolerance and is the preferred surface for reducing player injuries. Currently, they host a number of local, state, regional, and national level field sporting events. Also, in addition to the six large parks, there are also smaller development parks, swimming pools, and more walking paths and trails than you could possibly imagine.
- Golf Anyone? Whether you’re an avid golfer or simply enjoy the country club lifestyle, Lakewood Ranch has seven beautiful courses to choose from. The Ritz Carlton, Lakewood National, Esplanade, Legacy, and Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, which has three courses.
- Polo. You better believe it. Lakewood Ranch even has its own polo grounds. Every Sunday afternoon at 1 PM, Sarasota Polo welcomes the public to a formal tailgating of sorts. According to its website, Sarasota Polo offers… Clydesdale wagon rides, exciting action, food and beverage, tailgating, half-time entertainment, divot stomping and plenty of fresh air,” Sunday polo is ideal for families looking for a family outing without having to worry about beach traffic.
- Variety. Whether you want a million-dollar horse ranch or a small condo on Main Street, Lakewood Ranch has a little something for everyone. It also has a variety of price points to choose from as well. Whether your budget is $180,000 or $1M+, there are a plethora of options to choose from.
- Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Yes, Lakewood Ranch even has their own Medical Center, and it’s spectacular. With 450 physicians, 180,000 square feet, and 120 licensed beds, it’s anything but small. It also offers a comprehensive range of specialties utilizing the hospital’s advanced medical technology. Among the members of the medical staff are surgeons whose specialties include cardiovascular, gynecological, spine and joint, and reconstructive procedures.
