How Longboat Key Maintains Its Charm?

Longboat Key is a beautiful town located in both Manatee and Sarasota counties and south of Anna Maria Island between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Without question, it’s a favorite for international tourists as well as Florida locals looking to escape from the mainland and enjoy the pristine white beaches.

Despite popular belief, the growth in traffic on the Ringling Bridge is not due to an increase in population from Longboat Key. Much of the traffic is due to the growth in tourism from Anna Maria Island as residents and tourists tend to use that as a connection point to Sarasota and south Florida. The service industries and landscaping companies maintaining properties on the islands are also accountable for the increase in traffic.

The population has remained relatively consistent over the last decade due to rules upheld by the community to maintain its charm. According to Jeff Mayers, General Manager of The Resort at Longboat Key Club, “controlled growth tactics are in place to ensure the quality of life isn’t compromised.”

Jeff Mayers also explained how Condo Associations on Longboat Key are managed with more strict policies than Anna Maria Island to reduce the number of tourists each month. For example, properties on Longboat Key can only be rented out once per month, while properties on Anna Maria Island can be rented more frequently.

For those looking to move to Longboat Key, Florida choices are limited as the land available to develop is also limited.
