Sarasota Growth. That’s What’s Happening.
If you’ve driven east of 75 on Bee Ridge or Fruitville Road, it won’t take long for you to realize the huge changes taking place. From the expanded roads to the cleaning of land and newly constructed developments popping up faster than flowers in spring, there’s some serious growth happening.
According to Dan Lobeck, the President of Control Growth Now, “The Sarasota 2050 Plan has opened the door to massive urban sprawls in largely standard development patterns, first south of University Parkway in the Waterside “Village” of Lakewood Ranch and soon south of Clark Road.”
There is also an area called, Waterside which will expand south of Lakewood Ranch and north of Fruitville Road. Dan Lobeck confirmed, “Waterside has been approved for 5,144 homes on 5,490 total acres, plus 390,000 nonresidential square feet.”
In addition to the 5,144 homes north of Fruitville, Dan commented, “another 4,299 homes have been approved in other new developments east of I-75 and north of Fruitville Road and 10,441 homes have been approved south of Clark Road.”
If you’ve heard of The Villages, Dan also wants you to be aware, “approximately 12,000 homes are also allowed in “Village” development on the Hi-Hat Ranch, east of the Bee Ridge Extension.” Finally, “there is a massive West Villages development in and north of North Port, approved for about 23,000 homes.”
All in all, there is some serious growth happening in Sarasota. It’s not your imagination, it’s in the works. Sarasota is an amazing city, we all know this. With Siesta Key being ranked the #1 beach and Sarasota being ranked the #1 retirement city, the city is bound for expansion.
